NOPSSCEA Pays Tribute to TeachersNOPSSCEA
Teachers from the 56 member schools of the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural Educational Association (NOPSSCEA) attended the Teachers’ Day celebration last Oct. 5 at the SMX Convention Center 1 and 2.
The program started with a prayer led by Susan Lopez from St. Scholastica’s Academy (SSA), followed by the national anthem; each member school was then called by Jose Sebastian Cuadra, NOPSSCEA Board of Trustees (BOT) secretary, to recognize the presence of teachers before NOPSSCEA President Ervie Gallespen, Ph.D. gave her opening remarks.
BOT member Serah Grace Arcolas of Mansilingan Christian Academy (MCA) introduced the speaker Henry Tenedero, an acknowledged international educator and motivational speaker.
Tenedero emphasized in his speech how being driven by passion is important in one’s profession, especially in teaching. He also tackled the fun part of being a teacher as he himself is also a professor, citing some of his experiences with students in different subjects.
After Tenedero’s talk, the vocal duet competition took place where La Consolacion College Bacolod’s (LCCB) Gelkoff Calmerin and Kim Chamberlain emerge as champions against 11 pairs with their rendition of Islands in the Stream by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.
University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos’ (UNO-R) Shamynn Quilantang and Noel Angeles came close at first runner-ups while the pair from SSA were second runner-ups.
Winners of the different sports events during the Teachers’ Sportsfest were also given trophies and medals, as well as certificates for the participants.
USLS was champion in women’s volleyball, table tennis mixed doubles and all events in badminton; Christian Academy of Bacolod (CAB) bagged golds in table tennis women’s singles and doubles, while John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation (JBLCF) won in table tennis men’s doubles and in bowling.
Other winners were Bacolod Christian College of Negros (BCCN) in table tennis men’s singles, LCCB in men’s volleyball, and Riverside College, Inc. (RCI) in basketball.
A raffle was also held where two luggage bags were the grand prize, which was won by Clara Causing from RCI.
The Teachers’ Day celebration is an annual event held to recognize and thank the teachers for their passion in the service of education.
