‘Kiefly’ leads NOPSSCEA 37 OpeningNOPSSCEA
Couple-athletes Kiefer Ravena and Alyssa Valdez spearheaded the opening of the 37th season of NOPSSCEA at STI West Negros University Gym, 1 PM, Saturday. After the ceremonial lighting of the torch by student athletes: Bacolod Tay Tung High School gymnast Kiana Marie Alagaban, La Consolacion College-Bacolod swimmer Timothy Concon and University of St. La Salle spiker Christian Marcelino; the Phenoms, their popular moniker during their college days with Ateneo de Manila University, led the hoisting of the NOPSSCEA Season 37 banner followed by La Consolacion College-Bacolod and Riverside Chorales’ singing of NOPSSCEA hymn.
Also known to their fans as Kiefly, Ravena and Valdez shared their struggles and successes in their respective field of sports on their inspirational messages to the jam-packed venue. Ravena, an Iloilo-descent Gilas member, started with an appreciation, in straight Hiligaynon, to the fans and the committee members for the warm welcome they both received. Volleyball superstar Valdez narrated her early years in the game as a lousy player to the dedication and hard work she went through to reach her dream as a national player for the sport she learned to love. In an interview, Alyssa said she’s happy to be back in Bacolod and was excited to see the local athletes play in Manila soon.
After NOPSSCEA President Dr. Ervie Emelda Gallespen’s declaration of the official opening of the 37th season, the event was wrapped-up with a production number by dance troupes of different colleges and universities of the 56-member schools association.
